Adam and his cousin Nathan invented a word game during our recent family trip to Nebraska. I don't remember quite how it began, but the rules of "Eye Game" are pretty simple. "Cookie Eye," says Adam. "Grape Eye," says Nathan. "Camper Eye," says Adam. "Book Eye," says Nathan. The game even brought Nathan out of a grumpet after he fell and scraped his leg.
It is 10 pm and I am sitting at the kitchen table, listening to Adam play the game by himself. "Puzzle Eye." Giggle. "Puzzle Eye." "Sky Eye." "How about Loader Eye?" He's been amusing himself this way for at least 10 minutes, maybe longer. Let me mention Adam is snuggled in bed with five blankets, two small toy loaders, a school bus, eleven (I counted) picture books, two nuks, a stuffed frog and a car magazine.
Night, night, sweet boy.
